AAMC Submits Comments on Future Improvements to Hospital Star Ratings Methodology

The AAMC submitted comments March 28 to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) regarding potential future enhancements to the Hospital Compare Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings methodology.

House Passes Medicaid Package

The House of Representatives March 25 passed by voice vote The Medicaid Services Investment and Accountability Act of 2019 (H.R. 1839). The package includes an extension of three Medicaid programs and the Advancing Care for Exceptional Kids Act (ACE Kids Act, H.R. 1226, S. 317).

AAMC Submits Comments to VA on Community Care Program Access Standards and Eligibility Requirements Proposed Rule

The AAMC March 25 submitted comments to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on access standards and eligibility requirements in the community care program proposed rule, released Feb. 22. The proposed rule, one step in the implementation of the VA MISSION Act passed in June 2018, outlines six eligibility requirements, including access standards, that a veteran would need to meet in order to seek care outside of the VA system [see Washington Highlights, March 1].

Responding to the Opioid Epidemic

Opioid Workforce Act of 2018 Ad

While all doctors are trained to treat pain and addiction, specialists in particular fields are critical to address the opioid epidemic in rural and urban communities alike. The Opioid Workforce Act of 2018 would provide federal support to train those specialists.
